Event Details
SEASON PREVIEW: The Los Angeles Philharmonic will launch its 2025–26 season on September 25, 2025, marking the start of Gustavo Dudamel’s final year as Music & Artistic Director. The opening night pairs the world premiere of a new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid, co-commissioned with the New York Philharmonic, with Richard Strauss’s majestic An Alpine Symphony. It’s the beginning of a season designed as both a celebration of Dudamel’s artistic vision and a heartfelt farewell to his 17 years leading the orchestra.
Running through June 7, 2026, the season offers an ambitious mix of classical masterworks, bold contemporary pieces, and global collaborations. Highlights include programs from the LA Phil’s Pan-American Music Initiative, appearances by world-class soloists like Yo-Yo Ma and Yunchan Lim, and creative partnerships with figures such as architect Frank Gehry and filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Special events will also extend beyond the concert hall, with YOLA’s (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) community celebration in Inglewood and free neighborhood concerts across Los Angeles County.
In May 2026, Dudamel will lead concert performances of Wagner’s Die Walküre in a distinctive presentation featuring Gehry’s stage design, with Act I performed May 19–21 and a repeat run May 22–24. The season concludes June 5–7 with a deeply personal program pairing John Adams’s Harmonium and Antonio Estévez’s Cantata Criolla, a nod to Dudamel’s Venezuelan heritage and his enduring connection to the music of the Americas. This final season under Dudamel’s baton promises to be both a tribute and a milestone — a sweeping musical journey from September to June that celebrates artistry, innovation, and the deep bond between the LA Phil, its director, and its city.
