The Wiz is a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that reimagines The Wonderful Wizard of Oz through the lens of African American culture, music and storytelling. Featuring a book by William F. Brown and a score by Charlie Smalls, the show premiered on Broadway in 1975 and quickly became a landmark production. It follows Dorothy as she is swept away to the magical land of Oz, where she meets iconic characters like the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion while searching for her way home.
