ABOUT: The Who are an English rock band formed in London in 1964. The classic lineup consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. Each member brought a unique personality and musical talent to the band, contributing to their distinctive sound and dynamic stage presence.
The Who’s early success came with a string of hit singles including “My Generation,” “Substitute,” and “I Can’t Explain.” Their 1969 rock opera “Tommy“ was a groundbreaking concept album that established the band as innovators in the genre. This was followed by other landmark albums such as “Who’s Next” (1971) and “Quadrophenia“ (1973), which showcased Townshend’s ambitious songwriting and the band’s musical evolution.
Tragedy struck in 1978 when Keith Moon died of a drug overdose. The band continued with drummer Kenney Jones and released two more albums before disbanding in 1983. However, they reunited several times for tours and special performances. In 2002, bassist John Entwistle passed away, but Daltrey and Townshend have continued to perform as The Who, releasing a new studio album, “Who“, in 2019.
With their powerful music, rebellious spirit, and lasting influence, The Who have secured their place in rock history. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and continue to inspire generations of musicians and fans around the world.
