About Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is a high-energy funk jam band known for their explosive live shows, psychedelic grooves, and an unwavering commitment to keeping things fun, loose, and wildly danceable. Formed in 2009 at the University of Maryland, the Baltimore-based group consists of Greg Ormont (vocals, guitar), Jeremy Schon (lead guitar), Ben Carrey (bass), and Alex Petropulos (drums). Over the years, they’ve cultivated a devoted fan base — affectionately known as “The Flock” — through relentless touring, marathon festival sets, and an infectious positivity that radiates from the stage.
Their music blends funk, rock, and psychedelic improvisation with a jam-band ethos, often drawing comparisons to acts like Phish, The Disco Biscuits, and Vulfpeck. But Pigeons have carved their own niche with a uniquely goofy charm, tight musicianship, and a live show that emphasizes spontaneity, crowd interaction, and non-stop motion.
Albums like Psychology, Pizazz, and Presto have showcased their ability to translate high-octane stage energy into studio recordings, with clever lyrics and adventurous sonic textures. Their most recent release, Feed the Fire, leans further into their blend of funk-rock hooks and exploratory jamming, solidifying their reputation as one of the most entertaining and musically nimble bands on the jam circuit.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have become staples of major festivals and headlining gigs alike, and their ethos remains simple but powerful: bring joy, move bodies, and turn every show into a celebration. Whether you’re a veteran “Flocker” or a first-time listener, their live experience is all about connection, movement, and letting loose.
