Pacific Symphony 2025-26 Season Info

Pacific Symphony welcomes Alexander Shelley as Music Director Designate in the 2025-26 season, with Carl St. Clair becoming Music Director Laureate. Together they lead a rich roster of programs featuring ballet suites, masterworks, and storytelling through music in what promises to be a season of adventure and breadth. Shelley’s four appearances include conducting Scheherazade, Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe, Swan Lake, and exploring themes marking America’s 250th. Carl St. Clair leads key Classical Series concerts and specials, reinforcing the ensemble’s artistic strengths.

One highlight is Shelley Conducts Scheherazade in mid-October, which immerses audiences in Rimsky-Korsakov’s exotic tone poem. Ravel: Daphnis and Chloe will be part of a program in November that pairs Scheherazade-style color with ballet and lush orchestration.  In early December, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake appears in full or as suites.

The season also includes Mozart & Beethoven on November 23 at Soka Performing Arts Center, featuring Alexander Shelley conducting Julian Rhee, violin. While works like All Beethoven, Copland’s Symphony No. 3, The Music of John Williams, Haydn & Mendelssohn are in your list, only some are confirmed: Haydn & Mendelssohn will be performed as a Sunday Matinee in April with pianist Vitaly Starikov.

About Pacific Symphony

The Pacific Symphony, based in Orange County, California, is the largest orchestra formed in the United States in the latter half of the 20th century. Founded in 1978 by Keith Clark, it quickly grew from a regional ensemble into a nationally recognized orchestra. Today, the Symphony performs primarily at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, a venue celebrated for its acoustics and architectural design. The orchestra has gained recognition for its dynamic programming, commitment to innovation, and for showcasing both the traditional symphonic repertoire and adventurous contemporary works.

For more than four decades, the Pacific Symphony has cultivated a strong identity through landmark projects, including semi-staged opera productions, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and ambitious multi-season explorations of major composers. It has commissioned and premiered numerous works by American composers, expanding the orchestral canon while also honoring the classics. The Symphony’s artistic vision is complemented by frequent collaborations with internationally acclaimed soloists and guest conductors, drawing audiences from across Southern California and beyond.

Education and community engagement are at the core of the Symphony’s mission. Programs such as Class Act, family concerts, youth ensembles, and partnerships with schools have introduced orchestral music to hundreds of thousands of students across Orange County. These initiatives aim not only to build audiences for the future but also to enrich the cultural life of the community. Through its blend of artistry, innovation, and outreach, the Pacific Symphony has become a cultural pillar in the region and a vital presence on the American orchestral landscape.
