ABOUT: Mamma Mia! is a globally beloved jukebox musical that combines a heartfelt story with the timeless music of ABBA. Written by Catherine Johnson and produced by Judy Craymer, the show premiered in London’s West End in 1999 and quickly became a worldwide sensation. Set on a sun-drenched Greek island, the story follows Sophie, a young bride-to-be who secretly invites three men from her mother Donna’s past in the hopes of discovering which one is her father — just in time for her wedding.

The musical unfolds through a string of ABBA hits, including “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Super Trouper,” “Take a Chance on Me,” and “The Winner Takes It All.” Rather than simply inserting songs for spectacle, the show weaves the music into the emotional core of the characters, using the lyrics to drive both the comedy and the drama.

Beyond its feel-good energy and infectious soundtrack, Mamma Mia! is also a story about female friendship, independence, and second chances. Donna’s journey, alongside her two longtime friends Rosie and Tanya, adds depth to what might otherwise be a light romantic comedy. The show has been praised for its celebration of strong women, intergenerational relationships, and its ability to appeal to audiences of all ages.

With record-breaking runs on Broadway and the West End, multiple international productions, and two hit film adaptations, Mamma Mia! continues to prove that great music and a good story never go out of style.
