Event Details

Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung‑and‑rapped theatrical piece written by Lin‑Manuel Miranda that draws on hip‑hop, R&B, soul, pop, and traditional musical theatre to tell the life story of one of America’s Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton. From his humble beginnings as an immigrant orphan, the show follows Hamilton’s rise through the Continental Army, his role in founding the U.S. financial system, and the personal and political conflicts that define his legacy.

One of the defining features of Hamilton is its approach to casting and storytelling. Rather than traditional period costuming and staging, it casts non‑white actors in roles of historical European descent, intentionally shifting how audiences see America’s past. The musical uses modern musical styles — turning debates into rap battles, for instance—to make history feel immediate and conversational.

Since its premiere in 2015, Hamilton has been a transformative force in contemporary musical theatre. It opened off‑Broadway and quickly moved to Broadway, earning widespread critical acclaim, multiple Tony Awards, and a lasting cultural footprint. Its influence extends beyond entertainment — educators use it to engage students with early American history, and it remains a talking point in conversations about representation, storytelling, and how history is told.
