Eugene Symphony 2025-26 Season Info

The Eugene Symphony proudly presents its 60th season, beginning under the dynamic leadership of newly appointed Music Director Alex Prior. The season launches on September 12 with The Music of Journey at Silva Concert Hall — an electrifying tribute featuring symphonic arrangements of beloved Journey hits, including “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Separate Ways,” and “Faithfully.”

In mid‑October, on October 12, audiences will enjoy Fate & Fire, a bold opening to the season spotlighting Bernstein’s West Side Story Overture, Vivian Fung’s Violin Concerto featuring Kristin Lee, and the stirring climax of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 — marking Alex Prior’s masterwork debut with the orchestra.

November brings a series of standout performances: Music of the Cosmos on November 8 delivers a sweeping cinematic journey through space with memorable themes from Star Wars, Interstellar, and more; the next day (November 9) features a meaningful Side-by-Side with ESYO concert, where young musicians from the Eugene‑Springfield Youth Orchestra join forces with the professionals; and on November 20, Rhythm of the Americas fuses vibrant rhythms in Ortiz’s Téenek, Price’s Piano Concerto, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, and Ellington’s Harlem Suite, with pianist Michelle Cann taking the stage.

The holiday season includes two festive programs: Elf in Concert on December 7 offers a live orchestral score to the holiday favorite Elf, while December 11 will feature an extraordinary performance of Handel’s Messiah.

In January 2026, on the 15th, the Symphony welcomes back former Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero for an evening of powerful storytelling through Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 “Paris”, and Berlioz’s dramatic Symphonie Fantastique.

Fans of film music have a magical option too: January 30 brings Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in Concert, an immersive experience pairing the film with a live orchestral performance.

February’s highlight, Heroic Transformations: Beethoven on February 12, features violinist Julian Rhee in the piano concerto and concludes with Beethoven’s groundbreaking Symphony No. 3 “Eroica.”

March 15 brings a bold program with Romeo & Juliet, featuring Nina Shekhar’s modern Accordion Concerto followed by Prokofiev’s evocative ballet score, with Hanzhi Wang as soloist.

On April 23, Majestic Horizons: Handel & Schumann unfolds with Handel’s regal Water Music, a virtuosic Trumpet Concerto by Böhme, and Schumann’s lush Symphony No. 3, led by principal trumpet Bryce Schmidt.

The season culminates on May 14 with Forces of Nature, an exhilarating program featuring Gabriella Smith’s Tumblebird Contrails, Grieg’s dramatic Piano Concerto with Claire Huangci, and Nielsen’s fierce Symphony No. 4 “The Inextinguishable.”
