ABOUT: Djo is the musical project of Joe Keery, an American actor and musician best known for his role as Steve Harrington on Netflix’s Stranger Things. While many know him from acting, Keery has an extensive music background — he was a guitarist for the Chicago psych-rock band Post Animal before launching Djo as a solo venture in 2019.
Djo’s music blends psychedelic pop, indie rock, synth-heavy textures, and retro-inspired grooves, drawing influences from artists like Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. His debut album, Twenty Twenty (2019), introduced a colorful, experimental sound layered with introspective lyrics. He followed it up with Decide (2022), which received critical praise for its more refined production, catchy hooks, and themes exploring technology, identity, and personal growth.
Known for a playful yet meticulous approach to songwriting, Keery records much of Djo’s music himself, shaping its distinctive, genre-blurring sound. His live performances often feature vibrant visuals, vintage synth tones, and a mix of laid-back grooves and high-energy jams, making his concerts as much an atmospheric experience as a musical one. With the upcoming 2025 album The Crux and his “Back On You / Another Bite” tour, Djo is solidifying himself not just as a TV star who plays music, but as a serious and inventive artist in his own right.
