Utah Jazz 2025-26 Season Preview
The Jazz enter their 2025–26 campaign firmly in rebuilding mode, looking to cultivate a core built around youthful potential rather than chasing immediate wins. Rookies like Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr., selected early in the draft, are central to this long-term vision. Their arrival reinforces Utah’s emphasis on development ahead of contention. Meanwhile, the front office continues to package veteran players on expiring contracts — such as Jusuf Nurkić, Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson, and newly acquired Georges Niang — to maintain flexibility and accumulate draft assets. With expectations modest (sportsbooks have set the win total at just 18.5 games), this season is clearly about laying groundwork for future success rather than a playoff push.
Beyond roster construction, several key storylines will define Utah’s season narrative. The potential trade market for Lauri Markkanen remains active, especially if he finds a resurgence in form — his performance in EuroBasket could further ignite trade interest. Fans will also be keeping a close eye on how high-potential youngsters like Ace Bailey and Walker Kessler progress, as the team prioritizes their development. Adding emotional depth to the season are anticipated returns of John Collins, Collin Sexton, and fan-favorite Jordan Clarkson, each offering moments to celebrate despite the team’s transitional status.

About Utah Jazz
The franchise initially launched in New Orleans in 1974, named as an homage to the city’s famed musical culture. Despite a rocky start in Louisiana marked by financial hurdles and modest on-court results, the team relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979, retaining the “Jazz” moniker. To this day, the name remains a unique and iconic connection to the franchise’s roots. Their early years in Utah were challenging, but a breakthrough arrived in the mid-1980s when the Jazz made their first playoff appearance in 1984, laying the groundwork for a two-decade playoff streak.
The 1990s became the Jazz’s golden era, centered around the legendary duo John Stockton and Karl Malone. Under the leadership of Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan, they formed one of the most prolific pick-and-roll partnerships in NBA history. This era yielded multiple Western Conference Finals appearances and culminated in back-to-back trips to the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998 — though both ultimately fell short against Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.
Beyond wins and losses, the Jazz have grown into a deeply rooted community institution. From their days operating out of the Delta Center, they fostered a culture grounded in discipline, fundamentals, and longevity. This has cemented their identity as a symbol of stability and professionalism in the NBA. In fact, while Utah has yet to win a championship, their consistent playoff presence places them among the league’s most enduring franchises.
