Event Details
SEASON PREVIEW: The New York Islanders enter the new campaign under head coach Patrick Roy and general manager Mathieu Darche, who took the reins after Lou Lamoriello’s departure. With the franchise holding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, they selected defenseman Matthew Schaefer, a highly regarded prospect expected to anchor their blue line for years to come. Darche’s first offseason strategy aims to strike a balance — retaining core players like Noah Dobson, Bo Horvat, Anthony Duclair, and Jonathan Drouin while adding low-risk veteran depth pieces — yielding a roster geared toward meaningful games without sacrificing future flexibility. Regaining their traditional grit and improving special teams — especially the power play — will be pivotal if they are to reestablish identity and climb back toward playoff relevance.

ABOUT NEW YORK ISLANDERS: Since joining the NHL as an expansion team in 1972, the New York Islanders have become one of the league’s most storied franchises. They made their mark in the early 1980s, winning four consecutive Stanley Cup championships and compiling a record‑tying run of 19 straight postseason series victories. Those golden years cemented them as hockey royalty on Long Island.
Over the decades, the Islanders have played in several arenas — most notably the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Barclays Center — and nowadays call UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, their home. Known affectionately as “The Stable,” the venue reflects the team’s effort to anchor itself with stability and modern amenities, creating a bold identity rooted in both tradition and innovation.
Even beyond the dynasty era, the Islanders remain defined by their resilience and passionate fanbase. They’ve become known for gritty, disciplined hockey and historic rivalries—especially against the New York Rangers — as well as for iconic players like Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, Bryan Trottier, and John Tavares. Their story is one of peaks and valleys, but always driven by a deep-rooted commitment to competitiveness and community.
