SEASON PREVIEW: The 2025–26 New Jersey Devils season marks the organization’s next step in building around its emerging core of young stars. The club added scoring depth by signing Connor Brown and Evgenii Dadonov, while rookies like Arseniy Gritsyuk and Seamus Casey are expected to contribute in key roles — especially on the backend, where Luke Hughes’ contract remains pending. The top forward trio of Ondřej Palát, Jack Hughes, and Jesper Bratt returns intact, providing proven chemistry, while the second line of Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and Mike Noesen continues to drive the middle six. In goal, the Devils extended Jake Allen and will roll with the Markström‑Allen tandem, a combination that brings stability between the pipes. Notable off-ice moves include parting ways with key assistant coaches to support a bench restructure, signaling a shift in direction for head coach Sheldon Keefe’s staff. Despite early optimism, the team remains cautious — particularly around the potential trade of veteran defenseman Dougie Hamilton and the still-developing identity of their bottom six — with projections placing New Jersey in the “middle of the pack” tier pre‑season.

ABOUT NEW JERSEY DEVILS: The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey, competing in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference. The franchise began in 1974 as the Kansas City Scouts, moved to become the Colorado Rockies in 1976, and finally relocated to New Jersey in 1982 when they adopted the Devils name.
Their fortunes turned after hiring president and general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 — under his leadership, the Devils evolved into a consistent playoff team, earning 13 straight postseason appearances from 1997 to 2010, and securing three Stanley Cup championships in 1995, 2000, and 2003. During that era, they became famous for their defense-first style known as the neutral‑zone trap, a system that formed the backbone of their success.
Home games are played at the Prudential Center in Newark, a facility known for its red‑brick inspired exterior and Championship Plaza featuring statues of team legends, including a tribute to Martin Brodeur outside the arena. Over the years, the Devils have amassed a loyal following in New Jersey and earned reputation not just through trophies — but through a distinctive identity rooted in disciplined team play.
