ABOUT LOS ANGELES KINGS: The Los Angeles Kings are a professional ice hockey team based in Los Angeles, California, competing in the NHL’s Pacific Division of the Western Conference. Founded in 1967 as part of the league’s first major expansion, the Kings have built a long-standing legacy in a non-traditional hockey market. They play their home games at Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center), which they share with the NBA’s Lakers and Clippers. Over the decades, the Kings have grown from an underdog franchise into one with championship pedigree and a loyal, expansive fan base.
The team’s most iconic era began in the late 1980s when they acquired Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers, igniting the growth of hockey across Southern California. That momentum eventually led to the franchise’s first major breakthrough in the early 2010s. Led by a core that included Anže Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick, and Dustin Brown, the Kings captured two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014, becoming one of the toughest, most defensively dominant teams of the decade.
As of the 2025–26 season, the Kings are in a transitional phase, blending veteran leadership with new talent. Kopitar remains captain and franchise cornerstone, while players like Phillip Danault, Quinton Byfield, and goaltending prospect Carter George represent the team’s present and future. Under head coach Jim Hiller and newly hired GM Ken Holland, the Kings are focused on returning to consistent playoff contention by building depth, tightening their defense, and fostering youth development. With a history of resilience and a renewed front office, the Kings continue to aim for a return to championship form.
