ABOUT CAROLINA HURRICANES: The Carolina Hurricanes are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina, competing in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The franchise was originally founded in 1972 as the New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and later joined the NHL in 1979 as the Hartford Whalers. In 1997, the team relocated to North Carolina and rebranded as the Hurricanes.
