Baz Luhrmann’s groundbreaking William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet is returning in a spectacular new form with the William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet – Film In Concert Tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic 1996 movie. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the star-crossed lovers, the film will be presented in full on a cinema-sized screen while a 12-piece hybrid ensemble performs its score and soundtrack live in perfect synchronization. The production combines cinema, rock and orchestral music, vocals, electronics, atmospheric lighting and immersive staging to transport audiences back into the colorful and chaotic world of Verona Beach.
The global tour makes its world premiere at the Sydney Opera House on September 29, 2026 before heading to North America in early 2027. The North American itinerary begins January 9 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with stops including Brooklyn, Cincinnati, Boston, Wilmington, Red Bank, Hershey, Detroit, San Francisco, San Antonio, Dallas and Sugar Land. The production then heads to the United Kingdom and Europe in fall 2027, with performances scheduled in cities including London, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Zurich, Leipzig, Vienna and Berlin. The tour gives audiences across three continents the opportunity to experience Luhrmann’s distinctive adaptation in an entirely new live setting.
Music remains central to the experience, with the ensemble recreating both the film’s score and its era-defining soundtrack as the original dialogue and action remain intact on screen. Songs associated with the movie include The Cardigans’ “Lovefool,” Des’ree’s “Kissing You,” Radiohead’s “Talk Show Host” and Garbage’s “#1 Crush.” Developed in collaboration with Disney Concerts, the William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet – Film In Concert Tour transforms the celebrated film into an immersive fusion of movie, concert and theatrical performance, honoring three decades of its lasting influence on music, fashion and popular culture.
