ABOUT: Tommy Emmanuel, CGP (Certified Guitar Player) is an Australian guitarist, composer, and producer celebrated as one of the world’s most accomplished and charismatic acoustic guitarists. Born on May 31, 1955, in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, he began playing guitar at the age of four, performing in a family band that toured rural Australia. Largely self-taught, Emmanuel developed a unique, highly percussive fingerstyle technique inspired by his idol, the late Chet Atkins — who personally awarded him the honorary title of “Certified Guitar Player,” a rare recognition given to only a handful of musicians.
Over a career spanning more than six decades, Emmanuel has performed with a wide range of artists, from Eric Clapton and Les Paul to John Denver and Stevie Wonder. His music blends elements of country, jazz, blues, folk, and pop, often creating the sound of multiple instruments at once using only his guitar. Albums like Endless Road (2005), It’s Never Too Late (2015), and Accomplice Two (2023) showcase both his technical brilliance and his melodic sensibility.
Known for his warm stage presence, storytelling, and jaw-dropping live performances, Emmanuel tours relentlessly, playing hundreds of shows each year across the globe. His concerts often feature both dazzling solo pieces and collaborations, along with moments of humor and audience connection. Beyond his performances, he’s an influential educator, inspiring countless guitarists worldwide through workshops, instructional videos, and masterclasses.
