ABOUT: The Movement is an American reggae-influenced band formed in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2004. Known for blending elements of reggae, rock, hip hop, and alternative music, they’ve carved out a distinctive space in the modern reggae scene. The group originally started as a duo but has since evolved into a full band, fronted by singer/guitarist Joshua Swain. Over the years, The Movement has earned a reputation for their soulful songwriting, positive energy, and genre-crossing sound that appeals to both reggae purists and fans of alternative music.
Their discography includes multiple well-received albums such as Set Sail (2004), One More Night (2008), Side by Side (2013), and Golden (2016). In 2020, they released Ways of the World, which showcased their lyrical growth and sonic maturity, and in 2021 they followed up with Always With Me, an album that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Collaborations with artists like Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, and SOJA have further solidified their standing within the American reggae movement.
Beyond their studio work, The Movement is widely recognized for their dynamic live shows. Their performances combine tight musicianship with uplifting energy, creating a communal atmosphere that draws in diverse crowds. With nearly two decades of evolution behind them, The Movement has become a mainstay in the reggae-rock circuit, celebrated for their ability to balance laid-back grooves with socially conscious lyrics and heartfelt emotion.
