ABOUT: Stray Cats are an American rockabilly band formed in 1979 by Brian Setzer (vocals, guitar), Lee Rocker (upright bass), and Slim Jim Phantom (drums). Known for fusing 1950s rockabilly style with punk energy, they helped ignite a rockabilly revival in the early 1980s.

Their breakout hits —Stray Cat Strut,” “Rock This Town,” “Runaway Boys, and(She’s) Sexy + 17— brought the upright bass and pompadour look back into the mainstream, making them MTV staples and chart-toppers in both the U.S. and UK. Their self-titled debut and follow-up albums Built for Speed and Rant N’ Rave earned critical acclaim and commercial success.

Though the band has taken extended breaks over the years, they’ve reunited for special tours and releases, including the 2019 album 40, which celebrated their 40th anniversary. Individually, the members have remained active in music — especially Brian Setzer, who’s had a successful solo and swing revival career with the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

The Stray Cats are celebrated not just for their music, but for keeping the spirit of vintage rocknroll alive — raw, fast, and undeniably cool.
