About Steve Hackett
Steve Hackett is an English guitarist, songwriter, and producer best known for his groundbreaking work with Genesis during the band’s early progressive rock years. Joining the group in 1971, he contributed to some of their most acclaimed albums, including Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. His innovative techniques, such as tapping and sweep picking, influenced generations of guitarists and helped shape the sound of progressive rock in the 1970s.
After leaving Genesis in 1977, Hackett launched a solo career that showcased both his versatility and his curiosity across genres. His debut, Voyage of the Acolyte, had already hinted at his ability to blend symphonic textures with rock instrumentation, and in later works he explored classical, blues, jazz, and world music influences. His catalog includes over two dozen studio albums, with highlights like Spectral Mornings, Defector, Beyond the Shrouded Horizon, and more recent projects that continue to push boundaries.
Beyond the studio, Hackett is celebrated as a dynamic live performer, known for balancing his solo material with Genesis classics that fans continue to treasure. His ability to reinterpret progressive rock staples while adding new creative layers has kept him relevant for decades. Widely respected among musicians, Hackett has earned a reputation as both a virtuosic guitarist and a restless musical explorer, ensuring his place as one of the genre’s most enduring and innovative figures.
