ABOUT MINNESOTA WILD: The Minnesota Wild are an NHL expansion team based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, founded in 1997 and beginning play in the 2000–01 season, filling the hockey void left when the original Minnesota North Stars relocated in 1993. They compete in the Central Division of the Western Conference and play home games at the Xcel Energy Center, a venue that opened at the same time and remains the team’s home ice.
Minnesota made its first Stanley Cup playoff appearance in 2003, going on a memorable run to the Western Conference finals, though they were ultimately defeated by Anaheim. Over the years the Wild have made multiple playoff appearances, winning one division title in 2008, and have built a passionate fanbase around their defensive identity and tough-minded play.
