Madison Symphony Orchestra 2025-26 Season Info

The Madison Symphony Orchestra launches its 100th anniversary season in September with Pure Joy Opening Night: Magical Tchaikovsky, including guest pianist Olga Kern and conductor John DeMain, followed the next evening by Soar with Cirque de la Symphonie & Party into the Night, which blends visual spectacle with orchestral performances of film favorites. October includes Disney & Pixar: Toy Story in Concert, where the complete Toy Story film plays alongside live orchestral score, and Primal Light, a program showcasing luminous compositions under MSO strings. In November Radiance brings together works such as Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and a cello concerto by Alban Gerhardt. December’s holiday air returns with A Madison Symphony Christmas, featuring choral ensembles and festive seasonal music.

The new year moves into 2026 with thematic and cinematic programs. Heartbeat in January and Playful Pursuits in February combine lively, rhythm-driven pieces and lighter orchestral fare. March offers Force of Nature and Indiana Jones (film scores with live orchestra), giving audiences both lyrical power and cinematic adventure. April’s Four the Soul explores soulful compositions, and the season wraps in May with Voices Eternal, a deeply expressive concert featuring vocal soloists, choral forces, and orchestral works that linger beyond the final note. Throughout, Madison audiences can expect world-class guest soloists, dramatic scores, and deeply engaging moments of sound and story under John DeMain’s direction

About Madison Symphony Orchestra

The Madison Symphony Orchestra is one of Wisconsin’s leading cultural institutions, performing at Overture Hall in downtown Madison. Founded in 1925, it has grown from a small community ensemble into a fully professional orchestra with a strong regional and national reputation. Under the long-standing leadership of Music Director John DeMain, the MSO is praised for its powerful performances, adventurous programming, and ability to balance classical masterworks with contemporary voices and popular crossovers.

Education and community engagement are integral to the Symphony’s mission. Through programs like Symphony for Our Schools, Link Up, and Concerts on the Square, the MSO introduces thousands of students and community members to the power of live orchestral music each year. The orchestra also nurtures young talent with competitions and provides learning opportunities that inspire the next generation of musicians and music lovers. Its outreach extends beyond the concert hall, building connections across the Madison area.

In addition to its education efforts, the Symphony is recognized for large-scale productions that combine orchestra, chorus, and guest artists. A Madison Symphony Christmas has become a beloved annual tradition, while collaborations with internationally acclaimed soloists continue to elevate its artistic profile. With a focus on musical excellence, community connection, and creative programming, the Madison Symphony Orchestra plays a central role in the cultural life of the region.
