ABOUT: Freddie Gibbs is an American rapper known for his gritty storytelling, sharp delivery, and no-frills approach to hip-hop. Born Fredrick Tipton in Gary, Indiana, Gibbs built his career from the ground up — first through independent mixtapes, then rising through the underground with his raw, unfiltered style that blends street narratives with lyrical precision.

He first gained major attention with a string of mixtapes in the late 2000s and early 2010s, eventually earning widespread respect for projects like Baby Face Killa and ESGN. But his collaborative albums pushed him to new heights. In 2014, he teamed with producer Madlib for the critically acclaimed Piñata, followed by Bandana in 2019. His work with The Alchemist on 2020’s Alfredo earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, solidifying him as one of the most respected voices in modern hip-hop.

What sets Freddie Gibbs apart is his balance of technical skill, raw honesty, and versatility — he can rap over soulful loops, menacing trap beats, or minimalist production without losing his edge. His lyrics often touch on street life, survival, trauma, and success, delivered with both humor and intensity.
