ABOUT: Raised in a Southern Baptist family in the conservative South, Cain’s early experiences with faith, repression, and community strongly influence her music and visual aesthetics. She began making music as a teenager, initially producing ambient and choral-inspired works under the moniker White Silas before rebranding as Ethel Cain in 2019.
Cain first gained widespread attention with the release of her 2021 EP “Inbred,” which showcased her haunting vocal style and cinematic production. In 2022, she released her debut full-length album “Preacher’s Daughter,” a critically acclaimed concept album that follows a dark, tragic narrative set in rural America. The album received praise for its raw lyricism, immersive soundscapes, and bold storytelling.
As an openly transgender woman, Cain has also become an influential figure in LGBTQ+ music communities. Her work is often lauded for its unflinching honesty and emotional depth. She continues to gain recognition for her ability to craft hauntingly beautiful songs that challenge and captivate listeners.
