ABOUT: Known for blending aggressive metal with melodic elements, the band played a pivotal role in the rise of the metalcore genre during the early 2000s. The original lineup included vocalist Alex Varkatzas, guitarist Dan Jacobs, rhythm guitarist Travis Miguel, bassist Marc McKnight, and drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller.

Their debut album, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002), released via Victory Records, helped establish their presence with a mix of heavy riffs, dual vocals, and introspective lyrics. This sound was further refined in their breakthrough 2004 release, The Curse, which included fan favorites like “Right Side of the Bed” and “Bleeding Mascara.”

In 2006, Atreyu signed with Hollywood Records and released A Death-Grip on Yesterday, which charted in the Billboard 200 Top 10. They continued to evolve their sound with albums like Lead Sails Paper Anchor (2007), which incorporated more rock and alternative influences. After a hiatus in 2011, Atreyu returned in 2014 with renewed energy. In 2015, they released Long Live, marking a return to their heavier roots.

Founding vocalist Alex Varkatzas departed the band in 2020, and Brandon Saller took over full-time lead vocals. Recent albums like Baptize (2021) and The Beautiful Dark of Life (2023) showcase a blend of modern rock, metalcore, and electronic influences, reflecting the band’s continued evolution. Despite lineup changes and shifts in style, Atreyu remains a staple in the heavy music scene with a dedicated fan base and a reputation for energetic live performances.
