ABOUT: Andrew Callaghan is an American journalist, documentarian, and internet personality best known for his unfiltered, on-the-ground reporting style that blends gonzo journalism with a deadpan comedic edge. Born in 1997 in Philadelphia and raised in Seattle, he first gained attention while traveling the country in a beat-up van, interviewing strangers and immersing himself in niche subcultures, fringe political gatherings, and chaotic public events.
He broke out with All Gas No Brakes, a YouTube series he launched in 2019. Armed with a thrift-store suit, a microphone, and zero script, Callaghan captured raw, often absurd conversations that revealed both the humor and the humanity of his subjects. After parting ways with the production company behind All Gas No Brakes, he co-founded Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, continuing his distinctive brand of independent, crowd-funded journalism.
Callaghan’s work is marked by curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to let people speak for themselves — whether he’s covering political protests, conspiracy theory conventions, music festivals, or street parties. In 2022, he and his team released This Place Rules, an HBO documentary examining the events and tensions leading up to January 6, 2021.
