ABOUT: The Outsiders is a Tony Award-winning musical based on S.E. Hinton’s iconic 1967 novel, which tells the story of teenage boys growing up on opposite sides of the social divide in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the heart of the story is Ponyboy Curtis, a thoughtful and sensitive “Greasers” gang member who, along with his brothers and friends, struggles to survive and stay true to himself in a world that often feels stacked against them. The story explores themes of identity, loyalty, class conflict, and the cost of growing up too fast.

The stage adaptation features a book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine, with a score by folk-rock duo Jamestown Revival and Levine. The show debuted on Broadway in 2024 and quickly gained acclaim for its emotionally raw performances, explosive choreography by Rick and Jeff Kuperman, and direction by Danya Taymor. Critics and fans praised the production for capturing the novel’s emotional intensity while updating its style with fresh musical and visual storytelling.

What makes The Outsiders resonate across generations is its authenticity — these characters feel real, and their struggles are timeless. Whether you’re revisiting the story or discovering it for the first time, the musical brings new depth and urgency to a classic tale of brotherhood, resilience, and the fight to “stay gold.”
